“Through this Artwork, we participate in the Current informing all such works of Poetic Genius just as one Stellar stream transforms our Vision, allowing us to evoke the other.”
– Kyle Fite
Solstice Dreaming brings together many works that are a part of this current, this continuum of artistic expression that assaults the artist in a relentless fashion, determined to be manifested. For this reason there are a number of themes that the discerning reader will begin to see arise, familiar motifs that take on new forms. There are also artworks that have been the basis for illustrations, for book and record covers, for tarot cards and event posters.
When did you start making art? This is an inevitable question and it is difficult to pinpoint any one particular moment. Do I suggest it was as a child, drawing portraits of people around me, do I count my first commission, a reproduction of The Universe tarot card from Aleister Crowley’s Thoth tarot, or look somewhere else?
What artists inspired you? This is usually the next question. It is one that is a little easier to answer although it quickly becomes a long list. Aubrey Beardsley, Austin Osman Spare, Miro, Dali, Picasso, Tanguy, Dave McKean and so on. The moment we start to think about other artists we soon find ourselves tumbling through artworks themselves.
I’m pleased to announce the publication of SOLSTICE DREAMING: The Art of Sean Woodward, available now in large format paperback at:This art book features over 50 of my works, with an introductory essay and brief meditations on each work. Influenced by Typhonian, Voudon Gnostic, Witchcraft and many other spiritist dreams, this book is an ideal gift for all lovers of art and esoterica.
